If I.C. Electric, Inc. were a person instead of a company, it would be the type of person you’d want to have living next door. The Sharpsville, Pennsylvania-based electrical contractor built and maintains a reputation for reliability, trustworthiness, responsiveness and, of course, good, solid work.
I.C. Electric is a full service firm that specializes in industrial and commercial electrical construction. Since opening its doors decades ago, it has completed hundreds of projects throughout the western Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio area. Those projects span the gamut from turn-key and design-build to maintenance to emergency service calls.
“We’re known for doing what the customer asks and expects of us,” says company President Jerry Zreliak. “We can apply our creativity and counsel in a turnkey project, or we complete the job exactly to a customerís specification without substituting or find ways to change this and that. Customers know they can trust us.”
I.C. Electric Inc.’s solid reputation and work product is understood. The firm is part of Mercer County’s Most Valuable Professionals’ list, created by the Mercer County Consumer Network. This independent, third-party group bases qualification for the list on a companyís timely response to customers, keeping licensing and credentials up to date, a professional attitude and a reputation for excellent customer service.
Local electrical industry veteran Tom Flynn partnered with Zreliak and his father, Jerry Sr., to open the company in 1984, after the three of them found individual success with other electrical companies. Flynn is vicepresident of the company, and runs field operations while Jerry, Jr. runs the office. Jerry Sr. is now retired.
Flynn sees customer reaction to I.C. Electric work immediately. “We focus on quality assurance. We get directly involved with our customers and work with them from start to finish. When someone calls, either Jerry or I will meet with them, they donít get passed off to sales or estimating or customer service reps. Customers appreciate that.”
In fact, a large part of I.C. Electricís business consists of repeat customers. Both Zreliak and Flynn say thatís an important part of their business, because it proves that their workmanship and customer service is noticed, remembered, and appreciated.
Zreliak and Flynn will coordinate projects with heads of maintenance for schools or nursing homes, with facility managers of corporate structures, or with owners of industrial plants. They also team with contractors, project managers or general contractors for subcontracting work. A partial list of their skills includes:

I.C. Electric is experienced in working with a number of specialized industries. Their work can be found in the healthcare, education, utility, industrial and retail markets, just to name a few. One recurring customer is a major supermarket chain, for whom I.C. completes both new construction and retro-fitting for remodeling.
I.C. Electric is licensed in the state of Ohio, which requires annual continuing education and training to maintain that status (Pennsylvania does not have a licensed electrical contractor program). The partners also work with a safety consultant to develop and present a safety training program on a regular basis for employees.
Typically, about a dozen full-time electrical professionals are on payroll at I.C. Electric. But when a bigger project surfaces, the company has access to a near unlimited pool of qualified, certified electrical professionals as part of their affiliation with electrical union Local 712 out of Beaver, Pennsylvania.
Zreliak is also highly involved in The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. He holds positions on the executive and marketing committees and is a past president. And, while the Association isnít involved in negotiating contracts with the electrical union, Zreliak views his involvement as a “want to,” instead of “have to.”
“I grew up in construction with my dad, and we were always the kind of people who looked out for our neighbors and friends and co-workers. I want to do my part to keep the local economy moving. I like the Shenango and Mahoning Valleys ñ this is home to me. Whatever I can do to help out, I’ll do.”
