The Commons at Madison, a 40-room affordable housing complex for people struggling with homelessness, addiction, mental illness, is now open for service.
The 39,000-square-foot facility at 741 Madison Ave. on the North Side was built by DeSalvo Construction and designed by Beradi Partners. The units are for low-income earners and come with support services such as transportation, instruction on family life skills, interview skills, attire, wellness, stress reduction and nutritional counseling. The recent ribbon cutting ceremony was the culmination of an effort that began five years ago with the partnership of three social service agencies in the Mahoning Valley: Compass, Meridian HealthCare and the Help Network of Northeast Ohio combined their resources to serve as the lead partners for the $8.5 million housing complex. Future residents will have access to common rooms and a shared dining area, offices and computers as well as job-placement services and primary health-care resources.
