Good food and exciting college football provided a great setting for The Builders Association of Eastern Ohio & Western PA and AIA Eastern Ohio to team for another joint networking event. The groups held a tailgate party prior to the Youngstown State vs. South Dakota football game on October 1. About 140 people attended the tailgate, which featured a BBQ by local caterer Barry Dyngles. The day ended on a high note, as YSU defeated South Dakota, 30-20.

On June 8, 2016, Ohio became the 25th state to adopt a medical marijuana law. The law became effective on September 8, 2016. However, due to the licensure of cultivators, processors and retail dispensaries, the registration of patients, and the certification of physicians, the law will take at least a year to fully implement. Mahoning Valley’s Roofers Joint Apprenticeship Program is accepting applications for roofing apprentices. Wages start at $12.22 (plus $2.90 in benefits) per hour for first year apprentices. Those numbers grow with each year of training. Upon completion of the 5-year apprenticeship program, the current pay rate for journeymen roofers is $24.44 per hour with an additional $15.82 in benefits (i.e. Pension & Medical).
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has issued a final rule to increase protections for construction workers in confined spaces, which could prevent hundreds of serious injuries every year. Read more

The 2015 Ohio Safety Congress and Expo (OSC) is the largest regional safety and health exhibition in the United States. The theme for this year’s congress is “Imaging-Innovate-Inspire.” The event is being held at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, OH on March 31, 2015 through April 2, 2015.
The OSHA 300-A form Summary of Work Related Injuries & Illness should be posted from February 1 through April 30. The posting should be at each establishment that you may have and should be posted where notices are normally placed for that establishment.
